tron03Kia ora tatou:

For Windows users only ( Mac fanbois may now smirk contentedly).

If you shoot RAW and are continually irritated by the fact that you cannot see thumbnails of your images in Windows Explorer, then you should download and install the  FastPictureViewer WIC RAW Codec Pack. This utility enables Windows Explorer to show your images as thumbnails. It applies to most cameras, both current and legacy. It works with XP SP3 ( you have installed SP3, haven’t you?), Vista and Win 7. Recommended.

Clean up your PC often, especially if it is an older model. CCleaner removes junk from your system and speeds it up. you may be amazed by the difference. Many people look after their desktops, but ignore their laptop, which need regular TLC as well. Follow this up with a good defragmentation utility, such as Auslogics Disk Defrag. This will help put  the books in your operating system back on the right shelves and speed it up. Non the subject of registry cleaners, treat these with caution. Unless you know what you are doing, these can create new problems.

Athentech’s Perfectly Clear is available for download, as a plug-in for PhotoShop. It has an amazing ability to clean up and make your digital files look stunning. The interface is so simple that you may wonder what you did without it.  I will shortly have a coupon code for it, which give you a discount off the regular price. In  the meantime you can download a trial version. 32-bit windows only( Mac here soon).

You mean to say you can’t do that on a windoze machine without doing that!
CCleanerupper, Disk putter back togetherer?? Mac operators carry on as usual, no need to be alarmed by these unusual phrases.
    Have a great week.

And there are no necessary defrag utilities for Mac? Funny, I used one often on my MacBook to keep it performing….perhaps Mac users are not used to high performance!
    Have a wonderful week yourself!

I had the icon problem with RAW and JPGs. My Oz computer hotshot told me about a program called
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11738-thumbnails-previews-enable-disable-html.
    It’s for Windows7 I understand.
However, I am running Vista and I found this: go to control panel and use the classic view:
    the path is:
control panel>system>advanced system settings>performance settings> visual effects. Then click on the little box that says “show thumbnails instead of icons”.
All fixed – thumbnails of everything.

RPS member. Thanks Tony. I am just on the verge of shooting raw and need all the tips I can. Have had a Sony A550 four months and am enjoying it. Can’t afford any Zeiss glass but have Sony 50mm 1.8, Tamron SP90 and Sony 18-250, which I’m enjoying.
Is this fast picture viewer decode raw files too?Got any recommendations for a good RAW program that won’t screw up my brain….Thanks for the newsletters. Always inspiring. I been useing C Cleaner for a couple of years now
