The Great Debate..Doc throws down the Challenge

There is nothing so annoying as to have two people go right on talking when you’re interrupting

Kia ora tatou:
As most of you know, I am a digital guy now. My friend, Doc Ross, is a fine artist and film guy (that makes two of them I know). Recently we faced off across the debating table at the PSNZ Southern Regional Convention, arguing our sides of the moot: that digital is dancing on the grave of film. Debating is great fun; you take a point of view and argue it, no matter what you may believe. As Jill Ruckelhaus said, ” The best way to win an argument is to begin by being right.”
Naturally our side won… (more…)
Joining the Dots Pt. 2- A dark irritant
Thursday, November 29th, 2007A couple of weeks ago, while in town shooting for one of my clients, I made this image in a shop window. It has fascinated me how standing in a doorway and looking at the street through the lit window gives a different perspective,. The mannequins who stare out seem to inhabit a world of their own. At times it seems to me their reality is somehow more concrete than the surreality of life on the street. (more…)

What about a photo treat for your bloggers on this auspicious occasion? Post us something hitherto upseen please.
From time to time, if I am lucky, or looking the other way, an image will come to me, that takes quite some time to unpack, that rattles me. Here is one such.
For the last week or two, I have been very busy doing commissions for a local body, so my apologies if I have not been as prolific here as I might have been. Cup and Show week is huge in Christchurch; a week of festivals, parades and celebration. I have probably shot around 10-15 000 images. Any spare time has been involved with editing (it usually takes me around 30-40% of my shooting time to edit a shoot out to final).
As part of the commissions I was sent down to the SOL Square precinct in Christchurch to photograph the Big Brunch ( it never was, and never happened). While I was sitting there, waiting, and waiting, and waiting… I saw this. I made the image.
In the past, I have tried to unpack my images.
This one has me beat. I know it talks to me but, at the moment, my radio is off-channel. I am excited by it, I know it is somehow seminal, that a door has opened, but I am no further ahead than that..
It gets me, hence the new category…..
So I open it up for discussion.
I would love to have feedback.
Tell me what you see..Abuse is good , too.
With thanks
