Post Production- Taking your Images Further

This four day workshop is for people who are already moderately competent users of Photoshop (CSx or Photoshop Elements 9/10) and have some knowledge of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. The workshop will include lectures, evaluations and fieldwork.

Workshop participants will need their own copies of Lightroom and Photoshop CSx, camera equipment, a flash drive and a desktop or laptop.  Sample copies of plugins will be supplied, along with notes and a wide range of actions.

The workshop will initially focus on ways in which the two applications work together.  A core component of the workshop will be developing a digital asset management plan.

Issues to be covered will include:

  1. Digital asset management plan
  2. Strategies to backup, archive and retrieve stored files
  3. The importance of keywording
  4. Hardware issues, including storage and retrieval
  5. Maintaining your computer in optimum condition

The remainder of the workshop will focus on advanced techniques including:

  1. Sharpening and creative sharpening (global, local, edge, mid-tone and high pass) and ways to apply these creatively.  The subtext will be the philosophy of sharpening, including how we perceive sharpness and how to apply this intelligently to an image.
  2. How to obtain the maximum possible resolution for an image, and the difference a tripod can make, including how to analyse an MTF curve.
  3. The power of actions.
  4. Creative use of layers and layer masking.
  5. Noise reduction techniques and their intelligent use.
  6. Using plugins to extend the creative potential of Photoshop.

Students will be introduced to the power and simplicity of OneOne Software’s Perfect Suite.
